Patients Suffering from Migraines More Likely To Have Depression

Man suffering from headache, specifically migraine, are in a greater number prone to be depressed, feel weary, and have a host of other strict physical symptoms, according to a medical investigation published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical investigation involved 1600 women who buy seroquel at headache clinics in six different countries. Of the patient tested, 661 reported occasional headache (fewer than 15 headaches monthly) and 767 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the man were diagnosed with migraines.

The clinical research found man with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with incidental headache to report symptoms of major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also three times more likely to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among woman diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the medical trial found the likelihood of major Depression increased 32-fold if the patient also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms could incite or be a manifestation of major Manic Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt and Atypical Depression should heighten pain perception,” said medical study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Manic Depression suggests a ordinary neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Atypical Depression should be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Regardless of what’s causing the dependence between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric disorder such as Manic Depression complicates headache treatment and can arouse poorer consequences for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.

The medical trial was assistanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which judges 18 million American people are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to meliorating women care through education and medical research. A neurologist is a osteopath with specialized training in monitoring, treating and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and frequent sclerosis.
